What happens to your details when you buy a book here.
Last updated 21 October 2026
Your email address, and nothing else. It is used to send you the file you paid for and the receipt. It is not sold, not rented, not shared with anybody, and not fed to an advertising network. There is no tracking pixel on these pages and no analytics of mine anywhere.
These books are written and sold by A Whey to Explain, an individual, not a company. For anything in this notice, including a request to see or delete what is held about you, write to awheytoexplain@gmail.com.
Gumroad is the shop. It takes the payment, it is the merchant of record for the sale, and it stores the record of your purchase. Under Gumroad’s own terms I am the controller of your data and Gumroad processes it for me, which is why this page exists rather than only theirs. Gumroad’s own notice is at gumroad.com/privacy.
Your card details are never seen by me. They go to Gumroad’s payment processors and stop there.
No cookies are set by the pages on this store that I wrote. No analytics script of mine runs on them. No advertising network is given anything. No profile is built about you, and nothing here makes an automated decision about you.
Gumroad operates the domain and the checkout, and sets its own cookies for that. Those are theirs, described in their notice.
Nobody. Your details are not sold, shared or disclosed to any third party for their own purposes. The only parties that handle them are Gumroad and its payment processors, in order to complete the sale, and any authority that can legally compel disclosure.
Gumroad is based in the United States, so the record of your purchase is stored there.
The record of a sale stays in the Gumroad account for as long as that account exists, because it is the proof of what you bought and the only way a download link can be re-sent to you. A subscription to the new-book notice is kept until you unsubscribe, and is deleted when you do.
You can ask to see what is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to have its use restricted, to object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. Where something rests on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time, and withdrawing it does not make what happened before it unlawful.
Write to awheytoexplain@gmail.com and it will be dealt with. Some of these requests have to be carried out inside Gumroad, so they may take a few days.
If you are not satisfied, you can complain to a data protection authority. In Serbia that is the Poverenik za informacije od javnog značaja i zaštitu podataka o ličnosti. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to the authority where you live.
For a purchase, yes. A book is a file delivered by email and through a download link, so without an email address there is no way to give you the thing you paid for. For the new-book notice, no, it is entirely optional and nothing on this store depends on it.
The date at the top is the date this was last changed. If something material changes, the date changes with it.
